Mattie Easter Obituary

Mattie "Helen"Carter Easter, 90, of Mount Airy, passed away December 26, 2020 at her home.  Born December 10, 1930, she was the daughter of Edward Arlo and Savannah Elizabeth Martin Carter.  One of seven children, Helen shared plenty of love and countless experiences.  She went on to marry William Gilbert Easter and they had one child, Elizabeth Ann.  Left behind to cherish her memory are, her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Ann (Randy) Melaga; two grandchildren, Christa (Mike) Burnette, Angela (Melissa Holder) Harold; and a step-granddaughter, ReAnn (Micha) Molinas; three great-grandchildren, Asia Harold (Skyler Reep), Ty Harold, and Claire Burnette; a sister-in-law, Barbara Lee Carter, and several nieces and nephews.   She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Gilbert Easter; four brothers, Charlie Ray Carter, Billy Edward Carter, Johnny Howard Carter, and Clyde Lane Carter; two sisters, infant Eva Mae Carter, and Essie Lee Easter and her husband, Ray; and two sisters-in-law, Thelma Carter, and Nonnie Carter.

Mrs. Easter spent as much time as possible devotedly tending her flower beds and vegetable gardens. She cherished her family and enjoyed passing on her generations of knowledge of gardening, unmatched cooking skills and the love of the Lord. She cared for her family and many friends as lovingly as she did her gardens. A member of Pleasant View Baptist Church for over 30 years, Helen loved the Lord and was a gracious and Christian example of God’s grace. She will be deeply missed.

A funeral service will be held, Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Cox-Needham Chapel with The Rev. Josh Sechrist and Davis Love officiating. A private interment will be at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.
