Melvin Eugene Duncan,59, of Mount Airy, passed away unexpectedly, July 30, 2021. Born October 11, 1961, he was the son of William and Lillie Hughes Duncan. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, Dawn L Hughes of the home; two sons, Quentin Duncan, Ryan Hughes; three daughters, Khadejah Hughes, Mercedes Hughes, Lilly Duncan; two brothers, Joe Lewis Hughes, Mickey William Duncan; four grandchildren, Zaynah Galloway, Jaylen Duncan, Kyson Hughes, Arianna Greene, and soon-to-arrive, Khaleesi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Samuel Hughes and Billy Hughes.
Brought up to be responsible and have a good work ethic, Melvin joined the United States Army in 1979, gaining the rank of Marksmen and SP4. He went on to protect and serve the public as a Trooper in the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. A loving father and grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his children, and grandchildren. Melvin’s Mercedes was another treasure he thoroughly enjoyed. His larger-than-life presence and kind heart will be forever missed.
A visitation will be held Monday, August 9, 2021, from 1:00- 2:00 PM at Cox-Needham Funeral Home with a private family graveside service following at Simmons Chapel Primitive Baptist Church at 3:00 PM.
Elder Carl Morgan, Pastor Joe Scales, and Pastor George Hiett will be officiating.
