Monnie Gay Tuttle Johnson of King, North Carolina, passed away suddenly but peacefully, surrounded by her loving children and adoring grandchildren on Sunday, November 5, 2023.
Monnie was born on January 22, 1951, to Ruby D. and L.V. “Pete” Tuttle. She grew up in King with her brothers, surrounded by cousins and friends who have remained important in her life. Monnie retired from nursing after a long career in both private and public service. She also enjoyed a real estate career and the many connections she made. Monnie loved frequent gatherings with the South Stokes Class of 1969, day trips with Linda, beach trips with Ginger, and any lunch or family gathering she could arrange. She grew up at and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she served on several committees and loved her Sunday School class, WMU, and sharing her beautiful voice in the choir. Monnie had recently attended King First Baptist Church with old and new friends and was a fierce prayer warrior for those she loved.
Many will first think of Monnie’s welcoming personality and warm smile, but nothing brought her more joy than her grandchildren. While she thoroughly enjoyed being a mom, being Mimi was the role she relished; she has spent over 27 years shuffling schedules and kissing faces. She made it her priority to attend every baseball, softball, football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse, and volleyball game; every Scout event, band concert, and recital; every birthday party, awards assembly, and graduation ceremony. There is not enough time or space to put into words the enormous impact she made on our lives or the gaping void that has been left.
In addition to her parents, Monnie was predeceased by her brothers John Wayne Tuttle and Kenneth Dale Tuttle; nephew Kenny Tuttle, Jr.; and niece Kristy Tuttle.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Colon Moore, Julie Sedlacek and husband Jeff, and Robyn Puckett and husband Grant; and her grandchildren, Jeffrey Sedlacek, Jordan Furr and husband Alston, Emily Kate Sedlacek, Jacob Moore, Alex Puckett, Sam Sedlacek, Aliza Puckett, Addy Moore, and Allister Puckett.
The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church in King on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the church at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2023, with ministers Todd Lusk and Glenn Van Meter officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Baptist Church in King.
Memorial donations may be made to Mount Olive Cemetery Trust (c/o Wiley Burcham, 1180 Chestnut Grove Road, King, NC, 27021) or King Outreach (221 Ingram Drive, King, NC, 27021). Monnie’s family is being served by Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain, N.C.
