Mrs. Nelda Gay (Spainhour) Brown, age 79 of Shoals, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 30th at Forsyth Medical Center.
Mrs. Brown was born on March 19, 1944 in Shoals, North Carolina to the late Eugene Beverly Spainhour & Elsie Scott Spainhour.
Nelda graduated from East Surry. She worked at Armtex Textiles for many years. She also drove a school bus for Shoals Elementary School for over twenty years along with farming and caretaking. She was of the Baptist faith and a lifelong member of Shoals Baptist Church. She enjoyed working puzzles, doing search word puzzles, traveling, working in flowers, gardening, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. She also loved Wheel of Fortune and Matlock TV Show. She was a friend that was cherished by many.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two sons, Marcel Martin & Richard (Robin) Martin, both of Shoals; her daughter, Beverly Gay Oakley of Shoals; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and a special nephew, Jimmy Wayne Spainhour of Shoals.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stacy Lee Brown; two brothers, Perry Erastus Spainhour (Barbara), Winfield Spainhour and a sister, Ellen Kennedy (Charles).
A funeral service for Mrs. Brown will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, June 4th at Shoals Baptist Church in Pinnacle with Rev. Joey Lane, Dr. John Clagett, and Charles Kennedy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
