Peggy McGee Obituary

Peggy Layne McGee, 95, passed away peacefully at her home, Parkview Independent Living, in Maryville, TN on May 27, 2024.  Peggy was a long-time resident of Kernersville, NC. She moved to Maryville, TN in June of 2020 to be closer to her son and his family. 

She is preceded in death by her husband William McGee Jr. (Cub), parents James Oscar Layne, SR and Vera Jane Banner Layne, sisters Frances Foushee, Mozelle Coggins, Lucy Finley (Ada), and brothers Johnny Layne, Billy Layne (Wade) and James Oscar Layne (Jimmy).

Peggy worked for over 20 years with the Hanes Corporation, Winston-Salem, NC. After retiring from Hanes, Peggy later retired May 1994 after many years of service with the Amp Corporation.  Peggy loved to bowl, listen to Country, Bluegrass music and flatfooting.

Peggy, while in Kernersville was a long-time member of Main Street Baptist Church and had a passion for handing out bulletins to all the congregation.

She is survived by her son Randy McGee, daughter-in-law Kathlyne McGee, grandson Jonathan McGee and granddaughter Angela Allen. She is also survived by brother Jerry Layne and sister Ruth Conder.

A graveside memorial service will held at Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church, 2951 Volunteer Rd, Pinnacle, NC 27043 on Friday May 31st at 2pm. On Saturday June 1 at 2pm, a church memorial service will be held at White Hill Presbyterian Church, 3335 White Hill Rd Sanford, NC 27332.
