Ranae Nommsen Obituary

Ranae J Nommsen, 78, of Pilot Mountain, NC, passed away peacefully at home just as she wished on November 15th, 2024. Born on July 16, 1946, in Petaluma, California, to Robert and Ruth Peter, Ranae spent a lot of her life in the Liberty School district of Petaluma. She married the love of her life, Kenneth W Nommsen, on August 23, 1964, recently celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.

In her youth, Ranae was an active member of the St. Johns Lutheran church, teaching Sunday school and sharing her faith. Later in life, she found great fulfillment in hospice volunteering, making a significant impact on those in their final stages of life. Her lifelong passion for flowers and plants was evident in her home and stunning backyard.

Ranae's greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren. She loved walking through the neighborhood with her grandchildren, eagerly sharing their presence with friends along the way, and was a constant presence at their sporting events, cheering them on from the sidelines.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth who remains in Pilot Mountain, son Erik, grandchildren Madison, Abigaile, Taylor Berenyi (Lalida) and great-grandchildren Lillia and Senna, and her brother Rodney Peter. Ranae was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruth Peter.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all the dedicated caregivers and hospice professionals who provided compassionate support over the years, with special appreciation to Linda, whose unwavering devotion and kindness over the last several years made her like a cherished extended member of our family.

A funeral service will be held at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary on Saturday, November 23rd at 11:00am, in Petaluma, with burial at Liberty Cemetery. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, in the beauty of the gardens she tended, and in the lives she touched through her kindness and generosity.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Mountain Valley Hospice/Donations PO BOX 325 Dobson,NC, 27017 or a favorite charity.
