Ray Earnest Nelson

Mr. Ray Earnest Nelson, age 88, of Whitsett, NC, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington, NC.

He was born November 5, 1929, to the late Lerty Jerdon Nelson and Alice Bowman Nelson.

Mr. Nelson is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan Gray and husband, Joe and Teresa Jan Rimmer and husband, Roy; a son and daughter-in-law, Ray Earnest Nelson, Jr. and wife, Michelle; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a twin sister, Ruth Joyce.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Annie Ruth Simmons Nelson; his parents, Lerty Jerdon Nelson and Alice Bowman Nelson; two daughters, Debra Ernestine Nelson and Ramona Jean Sperling and two sons, Jesse Donathan Hart and Darryl Jerdon Nelson; six sisters; and four brothers.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at Cox-Needham Funeral Chapel at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Rudolph Spaulding officiating.

Interment will follow in the Nelson Family Cemetery, Fancy Gap, VA.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Cox-Needham Funeral Home.
