Ricky Thomas Shelton

Ricky Thomas Shelton age 66, of Pilot Mountain NC, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 8, 2021 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson NC. His loving family was by his side. Ricky never met a stranger and everyone that met him, loved him. In his earlier years he played in a bluegrass band, called Hickory Creek Bluegrass Band, where he played the Bass. He loved the outdoors and especially loved fishing, when he was well.  He had the kind of infectious laugh that made everyone laugh along with him. He was just a country boy who loved life, loved outdoors, and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and his mama. Ricky loved the Lord and heaven gained a precious angel. We know he is no longer wheelchair bound or in pain. We know he is running all over heaven seeing loved ones who have gone on before him, shouting and rejoicing with them and the Lord.

Left to cherish Ricky’s memory is his mother, Betty Shelton of Pilot Mountain NC ; one sister, Vickie S. Ruszkowski (John) of Pinnacle, NC; one brother Larry Dwayne Shelton of Pilot  Mountain NC; four children, Amy Jo Shelton (Gary), Sundi McGee (Bubba), Leslie Atkins, Jody Shelton (Tonya); eight grandchildren, Belle, Hayden, Lily, Eben, Kelsie, Camden, Chase and Bryson; three great-grandchildren, Cambrie, Addilyne, and Lily.

Ricky had a special nurse that has been with him ten years; Jeannie Southern whom he thought the world of, and a special friend, David Bryant.

Ricky was preceded in death by his father; Chester Thomas Shelton, of Pilot Mountain NC; paternal grandfather and grandmother, Reid and Elma Shelton, of Francisco, NC; Maternal grandfather and grandmother, Johnny and Hazel Essick of Westfield NC.

Family will receive friends at Cox-Needham Funeral Home Chapel in Pilot Mountain NC Monday October 11, 2021 from 6pm-8pm.

Funeral Services will be held at Cox-Needham Funeral Home on Tuesday October 12, 2021 at 2pm. Pastor Ron Chamblin and Pastor Larry Stone will be officiating.

 Interment will follow at the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, 164 Sulphur Springs Church Rd. Pilot Mountain NC 27041
