Robert “Bob” Walter Harp, Jr.
November 3, 1939 ~ May 14, 2022
Mr. Robert Walter Harp, Jr., age 82, of Pinnacle, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
Robert was born on November 3, 1939, in Wilberton, Oklahoma, to the late Robert Walter Harp, Sr. and Leta Mae Carlisle Harp. At 19 years old, Robert left Oklahoma for North Carolina and enlisted in the Air Force as a pilot and engineer in the 82nd Airborne based out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. While in the Air Force he met the love of his life and mother of his children, Shelby Jean Mincey – Harp, and had two sons and two daughters.
Robert “Bob” Harp was a self-made businessman, inventing scat tanks for fueling systems, and traveling all over to market and sell them. They can be seen just about everywhere in the United States. He was well known in the industry as an inventor.
Even with his military service and travels with the petroleum industry, he always made time for his children and family. He was loved and a friend to everyone he met, but especially his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, who looked up to him as a mentor. Family was everything to Robert, but he was also a good friend and was always available to help others in need. He was the man that everyone looked up to and was known as a problem solver. He often opened his home to those in need, helping others to gain the strength they needed to stand on their own feet. He held all the family gatherings at his house and was the rock of the family. He will be missed by everyone who knew him, but especially his family.
Mr. Harp is survived by his sons Kenneth (Misty) Harp and Jimmy (Tammy) Harp and his daughter Nicola Brown; his brother and sister; Harley Harp and Betty Ayers as well as his grandchildren; Chris Harp (Tiffany), Jacob Harp (Kaelin), Kayla Sisk, Demi McGee (Tyler), Carly Bottoms (Felix), Derek Harp, Justin Harp, Sierra Harp, Zachary Harp, Ciji Marshall (Larry), and Isabella Harp and great grandchildren; Hunter, Chloe, Madison, Raelynn, Kinsley, Wyatt, Marcus, Willow, Emersyn, Nolan, Cameron, Kayleigh, and Tucker; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents Robert was predeceased by his first wife Shelby Jean Mincey Harp, his daughter Sherrie Bottoms, his brothers and sisters; Jerry Harp, Larry Harp, Leta Mae Bauke, and Bobbie Harp; and grandson Joshua Sisk.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm with Thomas St. Angelo officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service with interment immediately following at Skyline Memory Gardens in Mount Airy, NC.
