Robert Stevenson Obituary

Robert Aloysius Stevenson, 70, of Tobaccoville, passed away October 23, 2021, at SECU Hospice Center in Yadkinville, NC. Born February 21, 1951, he was the son of Floyd and Mary Florence Clark Stevenson. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, four brothers and sisters-in-law, Raymond Edward (Nellie) Stevenson, James David Stevenson, Rev. Anthony Stevenson, William “Pete” (Lisa) Stevenson; sister and brother-in-law, Martha Laverne (David) Logsdon; a special niece, Theresa Goins; and a host of other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, JoAnn Pawley, Helen Marie Smith; a brother-in-law, Bruce Smith; and two sisters-in-law, Alexis Stevenson, and Marie Stevenson.

One of eight children, he learned caring and compassion and as a young man, went to mortuary school and began his apprenticeship in Kentucky and completed it in Chicago thru the Solarno Funeral Home. He often said he went into the funeral industry, “because that was the last thing he could do for a person and their family.” After completing his apprenticeship, he, for forty years, helped operate and manage a funeral chapel in Rosedale, Ill. An avid knitter and crafter, he would tell people he was “crafty.” His compassion continued through the knitting, as he would knit blankets for the homeless and churches. He retired from the funeral service and moved to Tobaccoville, NC in 2016. Robert stayed very active in his retirement with his crafting. His quiet and loving manner will be sorely missed.

A private ceremony will be held at Friends Union Church in Pinnacle, NC, at a later date. Pastor Danny Hall will be officiating.
