Robert Wayne Jessup, 92, of Pilot Mountain, passed away peacefully at Woltz Hospice Home on July 8, 2021. Born July 9, 1928, the son of Robert and Drucilla Cook Jessup. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, two sons and daughters-in-law: Brent (Kathy) Jessup, Chet (Sharon) Jessup, and two grandchildren, Austin Robert Jessup and Elizabeth Marion Jessup, two sisters Nell J. Baker (Bill) and Gail J. Durham; and two very special nieces, Jan Sawyers and Sharon Martin. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, and the love of his life, his wife for 60 years, Frances Gordon Jessup.

Wayne grew up on the family farm in Westfield. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and honorably discharged. Wayne tended the farm for many years in addition to a 28-year career at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company as a packing machine operator. He devoted his time away from work to his family and church. Wayne cherished time with his children and grandchildren instilling in them his love, faith, and strong work ethic. His interest included UNC basketball, women’s basketball, NASCAR, and singing gospel music. Wayne was a competitive “Rook” and “Checkers” expert and loved all kinds of desserts for his sweet tooth. He also enjoyed his “meal” families at the Squeeze Box and Hardee’s. Wayne was a charter member of Friendly Chapel Church and was the oldest living member. He was an integral part during construction of the church and maintained the grounds for several years. Wayne served as a deacon and was a member of the choir for more than 50 years.
