Mr. Ruben Lee Kendrick, age 92 of Winston-Salem, went home to be with the Lord, his savior Jesus Christ on Friday evening, May 31, 2024 at Lifebrite Community Hospital of Stokes.
He was born October 18, 1931 in Spencer, VA to the late Austin Dillard and Daisy Lou Joyce Kendrick.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Gracie Bell McGuire Kendrick. He and Gracie were married on May 10, 1952 in Chatham Virginia. Son, Ronald Lee Kendrick; three sisters (Mamie, Florence, and Sue); five brothers (Horace, Woodrow, James, Lennis, and O’Dell).
Mr. Kendrick was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Left to cherish his memory include his daughter Linda Faye Kendrick Johnson (Joe); five grandchildren, Stephanie Kendrick Lawter, Brandon Lee Kendrick (Caroline), Karen Kendrick-Young (Daniel), Crystal Marie Johnson, Laurie Johnson Jones (Nathan); five great-grandchildren, Julian Lee Lawter, Gracie Stormie Burkhart, Cadence Abigail Mau, Aaron Joel Burton, and a little girl who was very special and dear to his heart, Gracie LeeAnn Johnson.
He was an avid outdoorsman which included hiking, biking, kayaking, and gardening. His love of traveling led to his profession of working as a truck driver and was retired from Merrit Trucking Company. He was a faithful member of Gospel Light Baptist Church in Walkertown, N.C. for 59 years and was saved on May 18, 1965. He truly loved the Lord and served the Lord with great meekness and humility.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 and was stationed at Fort Jackson, S.C. in Company ‘D’ 13th Infantry division. He was deployed to Korea during the Korean War and rose to the rank of sergeant.
A funeral service for Mr. Kendrick will be held on Wednesday, June 5th 2024 at 1:00 pm at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Walkertown NC with Frank Shumate officiating. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service at 12:00 pm. Burial with full military rites will follow at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, NC.
