Steve Garrett Johnson

Steve Garrett Johnson, 68, of Westfield, passed peacefully away, at his home, surrounded by his family, September 12, 2021.  Born May 26, 1953, he was the son of Claude William and Allene McHone Johnson.  He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 25 years, Barbara Bowman Johnson; a stepson, Donnie (Marla) Fleenor, of Ararat, NC; a granddaughter, Mariah Fleenor, four sisters and brothers-in-law, Cynthia Johnson, of Greensboro, Diane (Vernon) Luckado, of Greensboro, Deborah (Ernie) Gregory, of Greensboro, Sharon “Jo” (Alan) Pope, of Raleigh; and a special friend, Sammy Shackleford.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steve possessed a very strong work ethic and worked for years in the furniture industry. He was a devoted and loving husband and stepfather. When not working, he thoroughly enjoyed wrestling and Nascar racing and always pulled for his favorite driver, Chase Elliot. Attending high school football games, especially the Mount Airy Bears, was a favorite pastime with his stepson.  Bluegrass and country music were Steve’s choice of music and later, he added gospel. A fun-loving, gentle-natured man, Steve will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to New Hope Ministry at 4288 N. Old 52 Rd., Pinnacle, NC, 27043.

A memorial service will be held at New Hope Ministry on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at 3:00 PM. Pastor Donnie Bowman will be officiating.
