Mrs. Tonia Denise Gravely Wilson, 55, passed away, Saturday, June 22nd, 2024, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winton-Salem, NC.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Surry County on April 20th, 1969, to William Leo and Fronia Gravely. She graduated from North Stokes High School in 1988 where she had studied cosmetology. In her career, she worked in the restaurant and grocery industry, particularly the Food Lion deli, but was disabled the last several years of her life.
Mrs. Wilson was a two-time breast cancer survivor. Mrs. Wilson spent her free time with family and enjoyed talking on the phone to friends and family as well as watching YouTube videos. She had a heart for young people and was known for having a huge impact on the lives of several of her sons’ friends as she was described as “never having met a stranger.”
In her youth, Mrs. Wilson was good at math and also enjoyed writing and typing. She grew up in church, especially following her parents around singing Gospel music. Every family get-together and holiday celebration included singing and sometimes Mrs. Wilson playing the piano.
Mrs. Wilson leaves to cherish her memory, her husband: Troy David Wilson; sons, Thomas Wayne (Rebecca) Newman, Robert Thomas (Lakin) Newman IV; one brother: James Terry (Teresa) Adams Sr.; seven grandchildren, Eddie Newman, Lucy Newman, Bentley Newman, Briella Newman, Bailee Newman, Mollie Newman, Noah Newman; six honorary sons: Jacob Needham, Cody Cameron, Ryan Trent, Chris Holt, John Vernon, and Michael Trent; 4 nieces and nephews; 6 great nieces and nephews; numerous friends and neighbors.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Leo and Fronia Gravely.
A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, June 29th, 2024, at 2:00pm at Cox-Needham Funeral Home, with Brother Darius Collins and Brother Alex Payne officiating.
Interment will follow at the Word of God Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 28th, 2024, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Cox-Needham Funeral Home.
