Van Boles Obituary

On the morning of January 2nd 2023, God called home one of his greatest servants. Van William Boles was born February 1st 1964 to the late William Harold Boles and Annis Gordon Boles in Pinnacle. Van attended and graduated from South Stokes High School in 1982. It was there that Van met the love of his life Sharon Hicks. He attended Brevard College. It was then that Van began his career of being a manager at Barnes Boring Hardware in Elizabethton, TN for 1 year. Van then moved back to Pinnacle where he and Sharon were married on July 4 of 1987. Van and Sharon, along with his mother, then managed Boles Grocery for 16 years. Van then transitioned to manage Boles Hardware for 22 years, eventually becoming owner after the passing of his father.

On October 17th 1992, Van and Sharon welcomed the light of their eyes, their son, Preston William Boles into the world.

In addition to being the manager/owner of the focal point of Pinnacle, Van was a faithful servant to his community. Van was an active member of Pinnacle United Methodist Church where he served as church trustee. Van was also an active member of the United Methodist Men's group where he always enjoyed lending a helping hand at the annual BBQ supper and Fall Bazaar. Van was also active in the Boy Scouts of America where he began in his childhood and worked up to the rank of Eagle Scout. Van continued to assist with Scouts by being on the Pinnacle UMC Scouting Committee for over 30 years and had the honor of assisting Preston with obtaining his Eagle Scout. Van was also a Charter Member of the Pinnacle Ruritan Club where he served for several years.

Van, alongside Preston, was an active member of Pinnacle Fire and Rescue where he has faithfully served for 34 years holding the ranks of Lieutenant, Captain, Safety Officer and Traffic Officer.

Van leaves behind his loving wife of 35 years, Sharon Hicks Boles and his son whom he could not be more proud of, Preston William Boles (Boo Williams). Also surviving is his sister: Kathy Boles Dutton (Harry); nephews Matthew Dutton (Arrin) and Brian Dutton (Moira); aunts: Dilma Rae Adams, Pam Boles and Margie Bolyard; several great nephews, niece and cousins; as well as many extended family members of Sharon's whom he loved dearly. Van was predeceased by his father William Harold Boles and his mother Annis Gordon Boles, a father-in-law Harvey Hicks Jr. and mother-in-law Jean Carole Hicks, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Van, Sharon and Preston had currently been working on a new business endeavor for the past 5 months in the place of the Boles Grocery Store. Van was excited and happy for this new opportunity for his family. Throttle Therapy ATV and Cycle Repair was slated for a Grand Opening on the morning of January 2, 2023. Van got to experience the Grandest of Openings on Monday morning when the gates of heaven opened and Jesus welcomed him home.
