Velma "Marie" Matthews

Winston Salem – Velma “Marie” Matthews, 91, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Silas Creek Rehab. Marie was born on October 13, 1931 in Stokes County to Ralph Lindsey and Artie Amos Mabe.

Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband of 64 years, Virgil William Matthews; sisters-in-law Bessie Matthews and Betty Matthews; and numerous nieces and nephews, and many many friends.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Ralph Lindsey and Artie Amos Mabe and sister Vivian Mabe Stowe.

She graduated from Draughon’s Business College and worked as the Secretary to the City Manager of Winston Salem for 45 years. She attended Siloam Baptist Church in Siloam and was church secretary for 45 years. Marie was a loving wife, sister, and aunt. She had a special love for animals as her and Virgil ran a dairy farm for many years.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 12, 2023, from 12pm – 1pm at Siloam Baptist Church with the funeral service to be held at 1:00 pm at Siloam Baptist Church with Rev. Jarred Seal officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Siloam Baptist Church, PO Box 25, Siloam NC 27047.
