In the late hours of Sunday, February 21, 2021, surrounded by her loving family at home, Victoria Galindo Rogers slipped through the veil, and into her loving Savior’s arms. She was born on October 10, 1941 in Mexico City, Mexico to Alfonso Galindo Alcala and Angelina Galindo Becerra, both who preceded her in death.
After high school, Victoria (Vicky) entered at the Escuela de Commercio to become a bilingual secretary. She started work as a secretary at the Banco Financeria in Mexico City where one summer, she met a handsome man from Pilot Mountain, North Carolina named Eldon Sykes Rogers, Sr. They married in 1966 in Mexico City, Mexico, moved to Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, and were blessed with two children in the years that followed. Their romance and partnership lasted 48 years until Eldon’s death in 2014.
During Victoria’s life, she wore many hats. She was a bilingual secretary, a telephone operator for CenTel, and was one of the first medical Spanish interpreters/nurse aides for Surry County Health and Nutrition Center. She worked sided by side with her husband while interpreting at the health department and also worked with him as an “English as a Second Language” teacher for Hispanics so that they could obtain their U.S. citizenships. One of her biggest accomplishments was receiving an award in Raleigh from the Surry County Health and Nutrition Center, where she did exemplary work in the WIC Program (Women, Infants, and Children).
Perhaps Vicky’s best passion was her devotion to God, family and friends. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church for over 52 years. She was the most devout wife, daughter, mother, Abue (grandmother), best friend, sister, cousin, and aunt one could ever desire. We will miss her tremendously.
Left to cherish her memory: One daughter, Dr. Michelle Rogers Nichols and husband John, one grandchild, Hailey Michelle Nichols and fiancé, Nick Stark; one son, Eldon (Stephen) Rogers, Jr. and girlfriend, Maria Alvarez, of the home. Five siblings: Alfonso Galindo (Anarosa Cajiga); Luis Gilberto Galindo (Lourdes Bustos); Eduardo Galindo (Rossy Forzano); Maria de los Angeles Galindo de la Torre (Francisco de la Torre); Maria de Lourdes Galindo. She was preceded in death by three brothers; Luis Alfonso Galindo, Carlos Galindo, and Jesus Galindo.
The Rogers and Nichols families would like to express their deepest gratitude to the healthcare team at Mountain Valley Hospice. We would also like to thank those who prayed for Vicky during her extended illness.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. There will be no formal visitation, Mrs. Rogers will lie in state on Monday, February 22, 2021 from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM and on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM.
