Virginia (Mayes) Key

Mrs. Virginia Mayes Key, age 92, of Pinnacle, passed away on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Central Continuing Care in Mount Airy. She was born on September 2, 1930 in Surry County to Lawrence Hobert Mayes and Lillian Alice Bullington Mayes. 

Mrs. Key was a retired cafeteria worker for the Surry County School System and a member of Pinnacle View Baptist Church. 

Mrs. Key is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Nickey “Nick” Key and wife Penny, of Gaffney, SC, Tony Key, of Pinnacle; two grandchildren, Tessa McCurry and Melody Smith; six great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Carter, Caroline, John David, Grayson and Emma. 

Mrs. Key was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Gray Key, parents, one sister, Joyce Mayes Smith, and one brother, Oliver “Dennis” Mayes.  

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Cox-Needham Chapel Pilot Mountain with Pastor Ron Chamblin and Rev. Brent Mayes officiating.  The family will receive visitors from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.  Interment to follow at Pinnacle View Baptist Church.
