Wilbur Marion Obituary

Surrounded by his loving and devoted family, Wilbur M. Marion went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 2, 2020. He was able to verbalize that he was being met at the Gates of Heaven by his Family members, who had preceded him in death. Mr. Marion was born on November 18, 1939, to the late Newton Claud Marion and Ella Viola Hardy Marion. He was born, raised and lived his entire life in the Shoals Community as part of a very close family. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and served terms as church treasurer. Mr. Marion was a lifelong farmer of Tobacco, Wheat, Soybeans and an extensive Gardener who normally planted enough vegetables to feed the entire community. He loved using his farm equipment to work the soil on God's earth; to plant, tend and harvest his crops. He was a talented farmer and farming brought him immense joy. He was a charter member of the Old Belt Farmer’s Co-op, in Rural Hall, and served on the Board of Directors for multiple terms. He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing, UNC Tar Heels Basketball, Professional Wrestling and Walker Texas Ranger. He loved spending time with his Family, making new memories and reminiscing about wonderful times of the past. Mr. Marion was loved and respected by his Family and Friends and he Loved EVERYONE. No family member could leave his home without being told that they were loved by him. He will be dearly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him and we will cling to those incredible memories until we see him again.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sue Scott Marion. Two Daughters: Sharon Marion Jessup (Chet) and Sonja Marion Norman (Reid) of Pilot Mountain. Three grandchildren: Austin and Elizabeth Jessup and Matthew Norman. One Sister: Hazel M. Tucker. Many special Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents; his infant Grandson, Charles Bryant Norman; Two Brothers: Claude Burton Marion and Tony Marion; Two sisters: Beulah Grey Marion Perkins and Nancy Marion Dezern. The family will receive friends at Fairview United Methodist Church, in Shoals, on Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 6 pm to 8 pm. The funeral service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 11 am in the Fairview United Methodist Church Santuary with Reverend Duncan Martin presiding over the service with internment immediately following in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt Airy, NC 27030 and the Shoals Volunteer Fire Department, 2964 Shoals Road, Pinnacle, NC 27043.
