William Manring Obituary

Mr. William Carlton "Carl" Manring, age 87, of Pilot Mountain, passed away on February 1st, 2024, at his residence.

He was born on October 31st, 1936, in Stokes County to the late William Walter and Lonie May Manring.

Mr. Manring, a remarkable mechanic who turned his passion into a legacy at Carl’s Automotive for 43 years. A devoted husband of 64 years and an adored grandfather, he was known for his talkative nature, great storyteller and never meeting a stranger. His love for westerns and his self-proclaimed cowboy spirit illuminated his personality. Whether flat footing to Bluegrass, tinkering on things, gardening, chopping wood, water skiing on the lake, or enjoying the outdoors, he found joy in every moment. His special love for cars was evident throughout his life. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know this extraordinary man.

He is survived by his sons, William Clark, and Mark Anthony (Anita); grandchildren, Jason (Elizabeth) Manring, Janet (Kelly) Moser, Stephanie (Zach) Emlinger, Brittany Manring (Steven Fowler), Cory (Christian) Edwards, Jamie Edwards (Blake Marshall); great grandchildren, Ayden, Aubree, Anderson Emlinger, Elijah Moser, Maddie, Ava, Connor Fowler, Shelley, John Bradshaw, Madeline Marshall, and Quentin Edwards; brothers, Bobby Wayne (Betty) Manring, Larry Branch, Ronnie (Debbie) Manring, Terry (Kim) Manring,  J.W. (Serena) Manring; sisters, Divers Moser, Fonda (Dwight) Moser.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Manring was preceded in death by his wife, Jettie Elizabeth Manring; stepmother, Elizabeth Manring; daughter-in-law, Debbie Manring; and several aunts and uncles.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted February 4th, 2024, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home at 1:00pm with Kelly Moser speaking. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at the Funeral Home.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice for their loving care of Mr. William Carlton Manring.
