William Thomas "Tommy" Vickers, Sr.
William T. Vickers departed this life for the next on July 18, 2020 in Winston-Salem, NC, after bravely battling Renal Disease for a number of years. Tommy was born in Durham, NC on Oct 1, 1933 to Thomas H. Vickers and Lilas Crabtree Vickers. After graduating from Durham High School and marrying the love of his life, Barbara "Bobbie" Lawson, Tom joined the Air Force and proudly served his country in Korea, Japan and the Philippines. Upon his return from overseas, he was stationed at Andrews A.F. Base in Washington, DC for 2 years as an Air Traffic Controller. When he and Bobbie returned to Durham in 1956, Tom started his career in real estate as a Broker, eventually evolving into a developer and custom home builder. Tom retired from the workforce from Absolute Dental Lab in 2009. Tom and Bobbie shared 60 wonderful years of marriage together until her untimely death in 2013. Surviving are their children, Beth Roll; Will Vickers (Delana), Patrick Vickers (Karen), and grandchildren Trey Vickers (Sara), Alex Vickers, and Zachary Roll. Tommy is also survived by his former son-in-law H.M. Roll, Jr. and wife Debi, both of whom he loved as his own children. He is also survived by his loyal and faithful dog Jake who aided Tommy in easing his grief when he lost his beloved wife. The family would like to thank Dr. Kalsoom Khan, Dr. Nicholas McLean, Dr. David Susco, and the staff at Miller St. Dialysis for their wonderful care. Burial will be in the family plot at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Trellis Supportive Care of Winston Salem, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
