William "Bill" Collins Obituary

With great love comes great loss and grief. William “Bill” Collins passed away at age 73 on February 10, 2024, at Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. Bill was born January 4, 1951, to the late Lloyd and Rachel Collins of Francisco, NC. Both leaders in the education field, Bill inherited his parents’ passion and expertise for education.

Bill graduated from Appalachian State University, where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. He served in the Army Reserves from 1971 to 1975. He began his career with Ashe County Schools, where he worked as a teacher, coach, and principal until 1987. He then moved to Stokes County Schools where he was a teacher and principal until 1993. Bill worked in Guilford County Schools as a school administrator from 1993-1997. He then returned to Stokes County Schools in 1997 and retired from education in 2003.

Bill was known for his unwavering love, support, and friendship to all who knew him. He took special interest in his community and served on the Stokes County Historical Society. He loved history, genealogy, hiking, and most of all, his family. One of Bill’s favorite things was spending time with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren. He was loved by so many.

Bill is survived by his wife of 36 years, Linda Collins of Greensboro, NC; 2 daughters, Suzanne Randolph (Tim) of West Jefferson, NC, and Mary Ann Collins of Durham, NC; sister Patricia Davis (Paul) of Richmond, VA; grandchildren Wil and Anna Simmons, and Olivia and Eli Randolph. In addition, Beamon and Caroline Davis, niece and nephew, were very loved by Bill.
