Bobby Leonard Goins, 69, passed away on December 8, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC with his children and sister by his side. He was born on May 22, 1947 in Lawsonville, NC to the late Walter and Carrie Mitchell Goins.

Leonard grew up in Asbury, NC. He attended Francisco High School and graduated from East Surry High School in Pilot Mountain in 1965.  In high school Leonard worked for Surry Drug Company, became pharmacy and store manager before becoming owner/partner of a new pharmacy, Mt. Pilot Drug, serving the Pilot Mountain and surrounding communities for many of their healthcare needs for over 40 years.

He was a member of Francisco Presbyterian Church and in his lifetime was involved in many things like the US Army Reserves, Pilot Mountain Jaycees, Pilot Mountain Ruritan Club, and a lifetime member of Pilot Knob Park.

Leonard loved golfing, especially on golf trips with buddies to various places like Myrtle Beach, Pinehurst or as far north as Prince Edward Island. He took extreme pride in his grandchildren, watching them play sports, play together, perform, and receive awards. He excelled at gardening, and loved super sonic tomatoes and burpless cucumbers. What he loved even more was delivering tomatoes to friends and neighbors so that they could share in this joy. He was an avid Carolina fan and could be caught watching Pickers or Andy Griffith when people stopped in to visit him.

Leonard is survived by his daughter, Beth Goins Cross and husband Allen of Durham, NC; his son, Jason Goins and wife Donna of Pilot Mountain, NC; his grandchildren Kate, John, Colby, and Addison; his sister Cathy Moore, and brothers Mike and Riley, three sisters-in-law Deborah, Sylvia, Shirley, and nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, many cousins, as well as golfing buddies who were more like brothers.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Carrie Goins, and brothers David and J.L. Vernon Goins.

The family would like to thank the staff at Forsyth Medical Center for great care of all of them during this difficult time, and for helping Leonard take one last swing of the club in life.

A funeral service will be held in the Family Life Center at First United Methodist Church in Pilot Mountain at 3:00, December 12.  A visitation will be held at Cox-Needham Funeral Home, 822 West Main Street, Pilot Mountain, NC from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 11.  Interment will be in Pilot Mountain City Cemetery following the service.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Francisco Presbyterian Church Youth Group, 7257 NC Highway 89 West, Westfield, NC 27053.
